Wingman Project Video Transcript – LISTEN DON'T LECTURE
An AIRMAN sits in his living room with the blinds drawn. It's dark.
Liquor bottles are strewn across the coffee table.
The Airman has a wedding photo of himself with his wife in his hands.
AIRMAN
Why did you leave me? Why aren't you here for me?
Do you have any idea what I've been through?
He slams the photo down to the table, next to a knife.
AIRMAN
I have no one now.
FADE OUT
FADE IN
A cafe. A THERAPIST and the Airman's FRIEND sit, talking.
FRIEND
I feel like I'm not really helping at all.
THERAPIST
You are helping. He needs someone to talk to.
He feels like he has no one right now. He might not
open up to you at first, just assure him you'll be there
when he does. Sit with your friend. Listen to what he has
to say. Be present.
The Friend nods, understanding.
FADE OUT
FADE IN
The Friend drives up to the Airman's house. Parks and runs up to the door. Rings the doorbell.
There's no answer. He looks in the window and sees the Airman slumped over the coffee table. He knocks on the window.
FRIEND
Jay, open up, it's me.
He watches but gets no response.
FRIEND
I know you're in there. I can see you.
The Airman stirs.
The Friiend goes back to the door.
FRIEND
Will you open the door? Okay, I'm calling
the police. I have my phone and I'm dialing.
He continues to knock.
FRIEND
Will you open the door?
He tries the doorknob. Locked.
Finally the door opens.
AIRMAN
Listen, I'm fine. Just go, okay?
He starts to shut the door but the Friend pushes his foot into the door, blocking it from closing.
FRIEND
That's exactly what I'm here to do—listen.
He follows the Airman into the apartment. Opens the blinds to let light in.
The Airman shields his eyes.
FRIEND
I just got back and I heard she left you.
The Airman opens a vodka bottle and takes a swig.
FRIEND
I just want you to know, I'm right here. And I'm
not going anywhere.
AIRMAN
I couldn't believe it. After all I've been through. I came
back to this? This empty place.
He holds back tears.
AIRMAN
She was....she was everything.
He drops his head into his hands.
The friend puts his hand on his shoulder for support.
