Shot of a clock: 12:15pm
People walk past outside the window of an empty cafe.
Shot inside the cafe reveals all empty tables, and a newpaper advertising SALESMAN talking to an AIRMAN who owns the cafe.
AIRMAN
Look, I can't afford to advertise this month. Look around.
Profits are way off.
SALESMAN
But you can't afford not to, if you want to turn it around.
AIRMAN (angry)
Didn't I just tell you that I don't have that kind of money?
The Salesman looks at him and he shakes his head apolgetically.
AIRMAN
Listen Mike, why don't you call me next month, okay? You
know, it's slow right now. I had to close up shop during my
last tour of Iraq and people have to realize I'm back, you know.
It's these erratic hours, they're just killing me.
The Salesman shakes his head. Turns and leaves.
As he passes out the door, the MAILMAN enters with the day's mail. He rifles through it as he steps toward the Airman.
AIRMAN
Hey, Jimmy.
(smiling)
Tell me there's no bills in there for me.
MAILMAN
I could do that but I'd be lying.
He separates out the mail for the Airman. Places the mail on the table.
MAILMAN
Looks like you got your new marching orders.
The Airman steps over to the mail.
AIRMAN
No way.
He takes hold of a chair and leans on it, then raises it and slams it to the floor.
AIRMAN
I am not going back to Iraq. I will lose my business!
He hangs his head, defeated.
